Boomerangs come in a variety of shapes and styles. This origami boomerang has the traditional shape and can be made from a single piece of paper with only one simple cut. It has some tricky steps, so we recommend downloading our printable template to make it easier.
Paper Airplane Folding Instructions
1. Fold the paper in half and then unfold. Cut along the fold and pick one side. You can save the other side to make a second boomerang.
2. Fold the paper in half. Then unfold and fold both sides into the middle.
3. Fold the paper in half the other direction and orient the folded edge at the bottom.
4. Fold both corners into the middle and use your fingernail to make a crisp crease.
5. Unfold the previous 2 steps, then open up the left flap and pinch the middle of the paper so it folds the other direction.
6. Continue rotating and folding that pinched piece flat until you get an L shape with vertical walls.
7. Take the vertical wall on the wider side and fold it down. Then fold the other wall down flat.
8. Slightly open the previous fold and tuck the corner into the pocket made by the previous step.
9. Press everything flat.
10. Open up each tip and fold the corners into the middle.
11. For each of the thicker corner pieces folded in with the previous step, unfold and then use an accordion fold to tuck the corner into the inside.
12. Fold the other two corners into the pockets made by the previous step.
13. Fold everything flat and make sure it lays on the table without any warps.
Pinch the boomerang with your thumb and index finger in the middle. Give it a flick with your wrist, spinning it clockwise. If you are left handed spin it the other direction. Throw it gently at a 45 degree upwards angle. The boomerang should fly up and way from you while spinning quickly. It should fly about 15-20 feet (4-6 meters) away, then change directions and swoop back down towards you. See if you can catch it!
