Paper Airplane Airplane Folding Instructions

Step 1

1. Fold the paper in half lengthwise and then unfold.

Step 2

2. Fold the two sides into the middle.

Step 3

3. Fold the paper in half the other direction and orient the folded edge at the bottom. The flaps from the previous fold should be on the outside.

Step 4

4. Fold the bottom two corners in to the middle to make a triangle shape. Unfold.

Step 5

5. Accordion fold the corners into the middle, tucking the triangle pieces inside.

Step 6

6. Fold the front piece down, aligned with the corner on the outside edge. Make a strong crease and fold back up so it looks like step 5.

Step 7

7. Reach inside the two vertical folds and pull them apart. At the same time, fold down along the crease made in step 6.

Step 8

8. Fold it all the way down along that crease and flatten out the wings.

Step 9

9. Flip it over and fold the top two middle flaps diagonally to the outside.

Step 10

10. Fold the bottom left edge up to the middle. Repeat with the right side.

Step 11

11. Fold the bottom point up. It will naturally want to fold along a line formed by the inner layers.

Step 12

12. Fold the entire paper airplane in half.

Step 13

13. Optional lock-fold to keep it held together: Reach inside and fold the tip of the small triangle piece over to one side.

Step 14

14. Fold out both sides to form the wings. The fold should be parallel with the middle crease and about one third the length of the front of the airplane.

Step 15

15. Fold the cat's ears up on both sides.

Step 16

16. Fold up the wingtips in the back of the airplane. If using A4 sized paper, you may want to fold these down instead.

Final Paper Airplane Design Uppercat

If you didn't do the fancy lock fold from step 12, use a piece of tape to keep the paper airplane held together. For optimal performance you may need to bend the trailing edge of the wings down very slightly to give some down elevator.
